As Brisbane’s subtropical architecture continues to grow, so does the James Street development. A new application from Brisbane-based Forme has been submitted which will expand this popular retail high street into New Farm.

James Street has been a well-developed area for some time now, with the architecture evolving from one building style to another. In 2020 they received their second medium-scale commercial project at 75 – 85 James Street in Fortitude Valley.

The subtropical identity of the James Street precinct is being crafted by Richards & Spence. They have been responsible for crafting a lot of my favorite developments, including this year’s highly popular Calile Hotel development.

The Calile is getting even better with this new development. The application for 75-85 James Street has revealed that they will continue to have fine grain tenancies, supplying much-needed small and medium office space in the process. Alongside their nine retail spaces facing onto James St., there are five other internal offices including cafes which would surround a proposed 720 sq.m. public plaza–a similar size as Fish Lane Town Square (730 sq.m.).
