The construction workers have just begun construction on a new facility in Truganina, Melbourne which will be able to house an entire 72-megawatt hyperscale facility made up of two 36-megawatt diverse buildings and 18 data halls. Hickory Data Centres acquired this site early next year and they plan for it to meet all specific design requirements from major cloud providers by Q4 2022 when it’s ready.
Hickory Data Centres has announced the expansion of its portfolio across Australia with sites now acquired to deliver in excess of 100 MW each. Upon full completion, these facilities will constitute a $1 billion investment into this market-which is great news for both consumers and businesses alike.
Hickory Data Centres is investing heavily in Canberra with their latest acquisition of a 24,000 square metre site and plans for an upcoming 28-megawatt hyperscale data center. The company expects this new development will be designed to meet security standards up through SCEC4 or higher which includes 4000 square metres of office and storage space as well.
Hickory Data Centres CEO Joel O’Halloran said he couldn’t be more excited about the new project.
Structure Research Head of Research, Jabez Tan said that Melbourne currently has fewer options for hyperscale capacity compared to Sydney.
