The Victorian government has announced that they will be upgrading Bridge Inn Road, in Melbourne’s north as part of a $2.27 billion package to upgrade suburban roads and rail lines across the state.
Laing O’Rourke won the contract, which includes installing a new walking and cycling path along Bridge Inn Road as well as safety barriers. Three signalized intersections will also be added with an iconic pedestrian crossing in between them all too – perfect for those who need more exercise on their daily commutes into work or just enjoy getting out of traffic.
Morang residents will soon be able to enjoy a more modern bridge as work on the new Plenty River Bridge has already begun. The existing bluestone structure is expected to remain in use and get some upgrades too.
The Federal Communications, Urban Infrastructure and Cities Minister Paul Fletcher announced that the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade will help reduce travel times across northern suburbs. It also aims to improve congestion by making it easier for people who live there or work in those areas to access important resources.
With the recent influx of people, roads have become increasingly busy and crowded. The Victorian Transport Infrastructure Minister announced that they will be upgrading 3.5 kilometres from two lanes to four on Bridge Inn Road in order to improve access for cars going towards Mernda Railway Station or town centre as well as trucks trying to navigate through these narrow streets.
The construction is scheduled to begin next year and will be completed in 2025.
