Waurn Ponds Station has now completed its major upgrade, with commissioning and safety testing to take place in 2022. The addition of new services to this part of the Geelong Line will be a huge win for passengers.
Once the new upgrades are complete, passengers will have more options on how to access their station. A forecourt with a drop-off zone and storage space for bikes is set to open this year after final safety inspections.
The newly completed overpass, ramps, and stairs are all set for operation this year! The second platform will also be opened up by then.
The commissioning period will see the installation of a 50-metre section following the relocation of a live signaling box from the rail corridor. The new railway has been a huge success with over 2000 sleepers and 2.9 kilometres of rail laid.
The construction of the second track is a vital step in duplicating between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds, which will allow more services to run through growth areas like Marshall and Waurn Ponds.
In addition to upgrading Waurn Ponds Station and constructing new stabling, the Australian and Victorian governments are investing more than $4 billion in the Regional Rail Revival program, which will upgrade all of Victoria’s passenger rail lines and create 3000 jobs.
